Welcome to Mountain Rat Adventures

Are you fed up with chasing your tail? Pardon the pun. I am a small friendly adventure company specialising in ghyll scrambling and canyoning in Cumbria. I can provide a wide range of mountaineering experiences you are sure to cherish for a very long time.

A little bit of back ground information about me the owner. I’ve always had a passion for teaching and instructing, and it was in my early years as a children’s fitness and adult fitness instructor that I found the natural crossover into the outdoors. As part of my own interest I frequently spent time paddling rivers and walking in the mountains. While scurrying around in the mountains, I found that I would come across people who needed help or directions. In fact, I found that mountaineering was very sociable on one scale and totally lonely at the opposite scale.

This became the catalyst for me to switch roles and become a mountain instructor, gaining both UK mountaineering and International qualifications. I have been involved in the outdoor industry since 1990 and never looked back. I have been lucky to move forward and have my family in my life - my number 1 fan is my little boy. I have a passion for the outdoors especially canyoning and love nothing better than imparting my enthusiasm and knowledge for the outdoors.

Although I may be repeating myself - I absolutely believe everyone can achieve more than they are prepared to believe.

The outdoor environment is a wonderful place to relax and de-stress, or it can be the best place to push limits - explore and find adventure. I make it my aim to deliver exceptional experiences in the mountains using canyoning and ghyll scrambling.

Client testimonial

He is very people orientated, charming and sociable. It is not just about the experience but about the person. Gaining an understanding of the person to then have a better understanding of what makes them tick and then how to encourage and engage people within an activity to ensure that they get the most out of it. He is extremely passionate about the experience not just the activity. So although canyoning is: ‘what he does’ this comes with the caveat that he does that through understanding the person and having a personable approach to ensure you get the most out of the day.

The day is intermingled with technical talk, sociable chat and pure fun – the correct mixture of each dependent upon the nature of the day and the client.

A Journey: written by a friend

As the song goes: ‘The road is long…’

Experience is what Lee has – both of life and the great outdoors. Lee has been involved in the outdoor industry since the 1990’s? Gaining college qualifications before working for an outdoor centre. He has spent personal time and effort in gaining experience in many areas, such as walking, climbing and ghyll scrambling before realising that canyoning – and more importantly the ICOPro approach – is what resonates most with him. It ignites his passion and his admiration for this approach which he adopts in all sessions.

His view of the outdoors: The great outdoors is something to share and enjoy – not simply look at but be at one with, participate in the best it has to offer. Pushing yourself to the limits without losing sight of the importance of fun and enjoyment.
