Are you looking for something extreme? - lets get abseiling!

Grading System Icon very steep

Intermediate to Advanced Level

This canyon contains mainly steep vertical abseiling. Ideally, you should have completed a CAI day to fully enjoy and get the most out of your trip. A good acceptance of heights is required.

Cautley Spout

Huge abseil at Cautley spout canyon

Sat amongst the rolling Howgill Fells, just down from ‘The Calf’, lies England’s highest waterfall above ground – the impressive Cautley Spout. The broken waterfalls cascade down the steep side of the mountain (glacial valley), until reaching the main 30m waterfall. Cautley Spout is a very fine tourist attraction in its own right. However, whilst the views of the cascades and surrounding fells are breathtaking, the fun to be had is in the water. This waterfall is not without its effort, as reaching the top is quite a steep walk, but it will be fully gratifying and fulfilling.

Your adventure in this canyon will be very rewarding, you will (mainly due to its nature) abseil 140m. There are two impressive 30m sections of abseiling, each requiring a head for heights. It is not for the faint-hearted.

We feel it is important to highlight, that to truly enjoy the character of this canyon. You should have prior experience in abseiling or have been canyoning before. Ideally, you should have completed the ICOPRO CAI.

Had an amazing day canyoning for the first time. Couldn't recommend Mountain Rat Adventures enough.
